Job Details:

Front-End Engineer | Bokun

About Tripadvisor

The Tripadvisor Group connects people to experiences worth sharing, and aims to be the world’s most trusted source for travel and experiences. We leverage our brands, technology, and capabilities to connect our global audience with partners through rich content, travel guidance, and two-sided marketplaces for experiences, accommodations, restaurants, and other travel categories. The subsidiaries of Tripadvisor, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRIP), include a portfolio of travel brands and businesses, including Tripadvisor, Viator, and TheFork.

Join Bókun, a Tripadvisor company, and help transform the tours and activities industry. Our booking management software helps travel operators worldwide increase their bookings and simplify operations. As part of our team, you’ll help develop solutions that improve how businesses in the travel sector operate and grow.

We are looking for a motivated and innovative Front-end Engineer to join our team in Reykjavík, Iceland. This is a fantastic opportunity to create impactful, user-friendly interfaces that will help shape the future of travel technology. Our product has grown over years, so the work is a mix of building new features and modernising older areas of the UI.

Job Location: On-site

This role is an on-site position in our Reykjavik, Iceland office.

Required

  • Proficient in TypeScript and React
  • Care about user experience and visual polish
  • Comfortable communicating in English (our working language)
  • 3+ years experience

Nice to have

  • Experience with modern CSS approaches (we use Tailwind)
  • Familiarity with Next.js or React Native
  • Comfortable working with REST APIs and across the stack
  • Background in travel, e-commerce, or marketplace platforms

What you’ll do

  • Build for real operators. Build interfaces used by thousands of tour and activity businesses around the world — what you ship gets used, fast.
  • Write code, daily. This is a hands-on engineering role. You’ll spend most of your time building, not in meetings.
  • Work end-to-end. Collaborate with product, design, and backend to take features from idea to production.
  • Improve the foundations. Refactor, modernise, and pay down technical debt in a mature codebase that’s earned its complexity honestly.
  • Shape the platform. Contribute to architectural decisions and help guide where our frontend goes next.
  • Collaborate with the best. Join a team of skilled engineers where you’ll brainstorm, refine ideas, and learn from people who care about their craft.

Our stack

Frontend

  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Tailwind CSS
  • TanStack Query & Router
  • Next.js (booking management UI)
  • React Native (operator app)

Backend

  • Java
  • Play Framework
  • MySQL
  • OpenSearch
  • Redis

Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with every technology — we’re committed to helping you learn and grow!
